UTCs are unique environments attracting students from a wide range of starting points. Our students have decided they want to pursue a technical career in our specialist subjects and Crewe UTC works closely with dozens of local, national and international industry partners to deliver a 21st century curriculum which equips students to graduate "Industry Ready".

The unique nature of our curriculum means that UTCs are not judged in exactly the same way as other schools. To quote the Baker Dearing Trust: "Ofsted and the DfE have recognised publicly that Progress 8 and EBacc are not appropriate accountability measures for UTCs, whereas destinations data might be a more suitable measure". In addition to this, there is also a local agreement in place which means that secondary schools do not seek to publicise their results data in a way which might draw attainment comparisons when each schools' cohort has such a varied range of starting points.

That said, we were incredibly pleased with both the attainment and progress data from this summer's outcomes. In most measures we were in line with local averages. In Year 11 students made above expected progress from their starting points in English, Mathematics and Science. In Year 13 our T Level pass rate exceeded national averages. Most importantly the destinations our students secured were high quality and within the sector. Students successfully applied to engineering apprenticeships at Alstom, JCB, Rolls Royce, Royal Navy, RAF, and Arriva, and to university places at John Moores Liverpool, Nottingham Trent University, Derby University, Southampton University Solent, Staffordshire University, Wolverhampton University.

Other headlines of note for the 2024 results:

  • Best KS4 outcomes for the college in 5 years
  • Engineering pass rate has jumped by 40%
  • English and Maths combined pass rate up by 14%
  • Maths pass rate up 13%
  • English pass rate up 21%
  • Science pass rate up 22%

"UTCs are unique in the educational landscape and I fully appreciate the desire to better understand the curricular offer, and our approach to academic rigour, when parents are making decisions about the future of their childrens' education. As always, I am happy to speak to parents at our open evenings and will again tour prospective students and their families throughout the academic year."
